STRESS MANAGEMENT

The background

........ The economic cost of stress as manifested by absenteeism, illness, accidents, conflicts in the workplace is considerable. The causes of stress are manifold: they can be related to the professional environment (pressure, deadlines, conflicts), the family (work/life balance, money issues, parenting, care of aging parents, etc.) or events beyond our control (traffic, violence, crime). A large number of studies show that pathogenic stress is linked to the combination of a strong external pressure with a limited sense of personal control over the situation.

Stress can crystallize a number of pathological reactions at the physiological, psychological and behavioural level. At the psychological and emotional level, one can observe aggressivity, declining self esteem, demotivation, anxiety and depression. These latter psychological states are frequent: over a lifetime, the risk of suffering from severe anxiety or depression is approximately 20%; at any given time, about 10% of the population is in a state of depression or anxiety.

The lack of stress control can generate harmful behavioural responses such as alcohol, tobacco and other substance abuse, loss of concentration, memory disorders, somatic disorders, professional burnout, etc.). These methods of coping can dramatically reduce the individual's productivity.

What can be done?

........AXIS MUNDI has established protocols of stress management for individuals. These techniques foster the practical identification of stress and its consequences and offer remedial and control tools, leading to a lasting improvement in the psychological and physical well-being of the person. Schematically, one can distinguish the following main objectives:

.
•  Definition, nature and measure of stress
•  Identification of sources and consequences of stress
• Implementation of strategies and techniques of stress management (including relaxation, increased assertiveness, cognitive and behavioural tools, etc.)
•  Training in stress management
